Already crowned champion after the first race, McGregor by Equipe Verschuur’s Mike Verschuur was racing for his own pleasure today. The Netherlander finished his season with a third win. Equipe Verschuur’s Bas Schothorst mounted the podium in only his second Eurocup Mégane Trophy after an exciting battle with Team Lompech Sport’s Fabrice Walfisch and TDS Racing’s Jonathan Hirschi.

The last race of the Eurocup Mégane Trophy season was fought for honour, as all the titles had already been handed out after the first race. Mike Verschuur had taken the Drivers title, while TDS Racing the Teams and TDS Racing’s Jean-Philippe Madonia the Gentleman Driver titles.
Starting from pole position, Verscuur got off to a perfect start, getting away cleanly in front of Boutsen Energy Racing’s Dimitri Enjalbert and Jonathan Hirschi. In the pack, things were going less wall for Tech 1 Racing's Nick Catsburg, TDS Racing's Pierre Thiriet and McGregor by Equipe Verschuur’s Jeroen Scothorst who were forced to retire after a collision.

Behind Mike Verscuur, the fight between Enjalbert and Hirschi was electric. Bas Schothorst and Fabrice Walfisch were there to take advantage. Walfisch lost no time in overtaking Schothorst. The Frenchman was now fourth, and immediately got stuck into Jonathan Hirschi.
Little by little the pattern of the race emerged. Verscuur was a solid leader ahead of a tight chasing group led by Enjalbert with Hirschi, Walfisch and Schothorst in hot pursuit. Close behind, the Gentleman Driver’s class was lead by Jean-Philippe Madonia. The positions changed within this group when Fabrice Walfisch was unseated from fourth place by Bas Schothorst. It wasn't until the refueling that the race order became clearer at the front of the race.
Front runner Dimitri Enjalbert was first to refuel, and Bas Schothorst the last. He left the pits just behind Hirschi and ahead of Walfisch, while Enjalbert broke down at the start of the start-finish straight. The Frenchman retired, handing Hirschi second place in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy championship.

Leader from start to finish, Mike Verschuur finished the season, with a win, his third of the season. The end of the race was lively, with a struggle for second taking place between Hirschi and Schothorst, the Swiss and Dutch drivers swapping places several times. Walfisch managed to make catch them up, adding a third car to the last great tussle of the season. It was vintage racing action, with the three drivers overtaking constantly. The last word went to Bas Schothorst who finished second ahead of Fabrice Walfisch and Jonathan Hirschi.

Mike Verschuur: “I finshined the season with a win, it’s great. The team has done a really good job. Right now, I’m thinking about next season. I’m retiring from Eurocup Mégane Trophy with a championship tile, I hope that my successor in the team will be do just as well in 2010."
Bas Schothorst: “I’m really happy to be here. Since Friday, I’ve felt totally comfortable with the car. The car is very maneuverable, it feels really good. I’d love to drive the whole 2010 season, and if there's a place available, I'm ready to grab it!
Fabrice Walfisch: “It was very difficult for me, as I was suffering. Nevertheless I went out there fighting even if I couldn't give the car 100%. I think I could have done better, but the team worked very hard. In 2010, I’d like to stay in this class, which is very competitive and really suits me.”
