International Draco Racing’s Bertrand Baguette finished his Formula Renault 3.5 Series career in style today when he claimed his fifth win of the season, which also brought victory to International Draco Racing in the Teams championship. Second in today’s race, Mofaz Fortec Motorsport's Fairuz Fauzy also finished in second place in teh Championship ahead of Tech 1 Racing’s Charles Pic. Fourth overall, Carlin Motorsport’s Oliver Turvey was this season’s top-performer in the Rookies category.

For the last race of the season in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, with some 80,000 spectators in attendance at the Motorland Aragón circuit, Fairuz Fauzy was in pole position ahead of Epsilon Euskadi’s Chris Van der Drift. Fauzy got the better start, while Jon Lancaster, who started from the second row, shot into second ahead of Van der Drift. And the action on lap one didn’t stop there. Fauzy led the way, ahead of Lancaster, P1 Motorsport’s Daniil Move, Bertrand Baguette, Esteban Guerrieri and Van der Drift.

On lap two, lancaster ran wide, suffering a puncture. He entered the pits to change his tyres. Daniil Move inherited his second place, but was forced to contend with Bertrand Baguette, who was intent on repeating his performance of the previous day. The Belgian spotted his chance on the fourth lap and Move was soon under attack once more, this time from Guerrieri, Van der Drift and Carlin Motorsport's Jaime Alguersuari.

Fairuz Fauzy was the first to make his mandatory pit stop, and handed over control of the race to Baguette. The Belgian stepped up the pace, setting the fastest laps of the race. At this point, Guerrieri overtook Move, before Van der Drift followed suit. During their pit stops, Alguersuari and Van der Drift lost precious seconds.
For the few laps during which Bertrand Baguette had the track to himself were decisive in allowing him to leave the stands as race leader ahead of Fairuz Fauzy. The International Draco Racing team’s strategy was perfect, and by now they could taste victory in the team garage.
Towards the finish, Baguette had full control of the race, without giving anything away to his rivals. Fauzy could content himself with second place to claim prestigious runner up title. Third, Daniil move had to hold on till the very end, as Esteban Guerrieri had an eye on the podium. But and error by the Argentinean in the closing laps allowed Move to finish his race in relative comfort.

Bertrand Baguette had the perfect end to a fantastic 2009 season; with a fifth win placing the Teams title firmly in the hands of the International Draco Racing. Crossing the finish line in second place, Fairuz Fauzy claimed second place in the championship. Daniil Move also finished his season on a high, by finishing on the podium for the second time this season.
